Mighty Matterhorn and more Mountains

There are so many mountains in Switzerland - it's quite hard to comprehend.  And they are big, big and majestic.  We rode a couple of cable cars and it's an awe inspiring ride - the mountains are everywhere you look.  Zermatt is filled with people in climbing and walking gear - quite re-assuring that many of them are our age and older.  And the sticks they carry are for climbing (not the usual walking sticks as we understand!!)  On our last day in Zermatt, we rode a cable car up the mountain and then walked down - a beautiful sunny steep walk down - little restaurants dotted on the way for a toilet stop, a drink and some apple strudel - so civilised I say.
A picnic stop here by a little stream

I kid you not, there was a guy on the path, picking up any bits of rubbish - here he is carrying his plastic bag and little grabber stick.

And those gnomes travel far and wide too

And then it was on the Slow Glacier Express from Zermatt to St. Moritz - an 8 hour journey through over 250 tunnels and across many bridges - whew.  Quite a ride.

Today a bus ride from St. Moritz to Chiavenna on the Post Bus, which went through a lot of small towns off the main highway - so interesting and via a spectacular pass with absolute hair pin twists and turns.

And now we are in Italy - in Lecco on Lake Como.  Tonight we sat by the lake at a cafe - had a Campari Spritzer each, which came with a pizza and nibbles - all for EU 10 (that's about AU$15.00)  so I reckon Italy is bella.

Ciao for now
