Ghent and Bern

Well it's been quite a ride so far.  Ghent is a beautiful town in Belgium, so worth visiting.  We decided not to break up our time here by going to Bruges, so that will have to be next visit.  Ghent is extremely manageable.  Stayed in a great Hotel - the NH Belfort which is right in the Historic Old City.  Again a city of canals, churches and beautiful old buildings all perfectly preserved.  Museums and galleries enough to keep one occupied for a very long time.  Ate twice in a Morrocan restaurant, the foodwas so  delicious.  I have added just a few pics so you can get the idea.

Yes nearly a statue.

On Monday we travelled to Bern in Switzerland.  Our friends here have kept us on the go all day.  Yesterday they took us on a one hour steam train ride to the top of a mountain nearly 2500 meters high!!  This is about the same height as Kosciusko  - the highest mountain in Oz
And I have no idea who this bloke is by the way. But I do know that the guy in the cap is driving the other train.
This is the peak of the Jung Frau
Then after we returned we took a boat trip across the lake and then up a funicular train to the Grand Giessenbach Hotel - which has views of an incredible waterfall, which we walked behind.  So it's a water curtain
And for my next dinner party ...........

Today a walk around Bern itself -and a visit to our friend's sculpture studio.

Tomorrow is another day - to the Sherlock Holmes Museum (they have a Museum for everthing here)
near the Reichenbach Falls I believe, where Conan Doyle killed off Sherlock, but then had to resurrect him as there was a huge public outcry!!!!!!!! I will say no more, but these couple of pictures tell a story!
